The Grab driver ferrying Pamela Ling, who disappeared nearly a month ago while on her way to record a statement with the MACC, claimed that individuals wearing police uniforms allegedly forced him to mark the ride as “completed”.

The 55-year-old e-hailing driver, who only wished to be known as Kok, claimed the individuals also confiscated his driving licence and identification card.

Harian Metro quoted Kok as saying that the individuals approached in three separate cars and blocked his vehicle near the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya - Ling’s set destination after the driver had picked her up from Velocity Tower, Cheras.

“Two men and one woman came out of two cars, but no one came out of the third car.

“I saw two men wearing police vests while the woman was dressed in a police uniform. They approached my car and informed me that they wanted to arrest (Ling) to aid an investigation after receiving a police report,” he added.

Kok said Ling (above) refused to exit the car, prompting the unidentified woman to remove her physically from the vehicle.

The two men explained that they were executing an arrest and would send Ling to the nearest police station.

He added that Ling had eventually adhered to the instructions. She then paid Kok RM100 for the ride before the “kidnappers” forced him to click the “job complete” option on the Grab application.

Kok asserted that he had filed a police report after the incident, which has left him unable to work over the past two weeks, as he is still waiting for a new driving licence.

Yesterday, Ling’s lawyer, N Sivananthan, told Malaysiakini that he had sighted the police report lodged by the Grab driver.

Lawyer Sangeet Kaur Deo, who is representing Ling’s brother and father, also questioned whether MACC had taken the appropriate actions to ensure the victim’s safety.

When asked about the nearly month-long silence before Ling’s family revealed her disappearance, Sangeet told Malaysiakini the family had been waiting on updates from police after an initial report on the alleged kidnapping was filed.

She added that while the family had not wanted to risk jeopardising investigations in the early stages, they were not receiving any updates on the case.

On May 2, Ling’s family revealed that the 42-year-old, who is a Datin Seri, was on her way to meet MACC investigators on April 9, where she was supposed to facilitate a money laundering investigation, but was abducted before she could reach her destination.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Rusdi Isa said the case is being investigated under Section 365 of the Penal Code for abduction or kidnapping with intent to wrongfully confine a person. The offence carries a jail term of up to seven years and a fine.

Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain has since stated that police are investigating the possibility that Ling was abducted by individuals impersonating police officers or legitimate authorities.
